The Chronicles
March 2008
Salutations dear readers and fellow Laurentian neighbors,
Hey, hey, HEY* … it's YOUR birthday Main Street … HAPPY 7th BIRTHDAY … what an accomplishment, CONGRATULATIONS! Now, let me ask you dear readers, are you like most who secretly make resolutions on your birthday? It's not just at New Year's that we make resolutions, it's also (for most people I've met anyway) when we arrive at an important milestone in our lives - our birthday. So, in honor of Main Street's birthday, I'm going to suggest an excellent resolution for us all: instead of deciding to follow yet another insignificant diet, let's consider a resolution which has the potential of truly enhancing our being: our education … after all, knowledge is forever.
Here's the good news: it is possible, in the comfort of your own home and at your own convenience, to continue educating yourself thanks to an incredible tool ... the Computer of course!
Maybe you are:
* a student in search of additional information, i.e. in mathematics or science or history,
* a person wanting to acquire new knowledge in hope of a better job,
* an employee in search of better spelling skills,
* a retiree wanting to learn a new language with travel in mind,
* an enthusiast in photography or gardening or cooking ...
In fact, the learning opportunities are infinite and the computer, this extraordinary piece of thrilling equipment, offers you limitless possibilities and access to the Internet. The Internet is a window into the vast universe of human knowledge, accessible to all; it is in fact a universal and interactive library at your very fingertips ...
However, one must know WHERE to look and HOW to search for information. For example, it is useful to know that there are three types of websites:
1) general interest sites, like dictionaries, encyclopedias, grammar or spelling lexicons, etc...
2) specialized sites, for example for learning languages or organizing your finances, etc...
3) 'Forums', virtual spaces where people come to freely exchange information and ideas on all conceivable subjects.
Put simply, it is advantageous to know how to navigate on the Internet in order to sift through all the available information efficiently. Furthermore, I would suggest that before this can be achieved with success, a solid understanding of how to use your computer will enable you to enhance its capabilities, thus allowing you to attain, without frustration, the particular results you are seeking. Mon Ami l'Ordi offers you a comprehensive service to help you make your first steps towards optimum utilization of your computer. I am available for home tuition with the goal in mind of making you, in 2008, a skilled and savvy Computer and Internet user. After all, knowledge is forever.
Thumbs up Main Street, keep up the good work!
Bye for now and look after yourselves!
