The Chronicles
October 2009
Salutations dear readers and fellow Laurentian neighbors,
A long, long time ago, when I first started writing chronicles, I mentioned that your computer is not only a tool used to accomplish various tasks, but also a “filing cabinet” employed to organize your work. This filing system contains many drawers and each in turn many “manila folders”. In technical language, these “manila folders” are simply called Folders (or Files). Within each Folder it is possible to place as many sub-folders as is necessary to follow one's own logic. In the case at hand, we are going to use our “filing cabinet” to organize our photos.
Organizing is done through three processes. The first consists of naming our photos (so as not to have so many Folders that we forget our organizational system), the second is to create our Folder (if not previously done) and the third is to place our photos into this (these) Folder(s) for future reference.
This month, let us peruse how to name photos. Of course, I am not suggesting that we rename each photo individually. This step would take so long as to be devoid of interest. For example, upon return from a two week vacation, it would be boring and fastidious to rename one by one all the photos taken. There is a way to accomplish this task all in one go: first, click on the last photo of a chosen group of photos, then move the cursor up to the first photo of this group, and before doing anything else hold down the SHIFT key and then click on this first photo. All of the photos will now be highlighted with a blue square around them - they have all been “selected”. With the mouse's cursor still pointing on the first photo, it is now time to do a right-click on this photo and to choose Rename in the list. The name under the first photo is now blue and ready for you to write the new name.
Take good care of yourselves,
