The Chronicles
June 2012
Last November, I was asked to write a testimonial text which will be part of a book intended for (college) students wishing to undertake a career in Real Estate. Through my chronicles over the next two months, I will share with you my contribution to Chapter 8 of the book titled: "S'organiser pour être efficace et plus rentable" (Organizing oneself in order to be efficient and more profitable) ...
Part One:
One could say that the reason for being of Organization is to enable ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things. Being organized forces you to clarify your thoughts and to streamline your methods. This in turn enables you to repeat, methodically and consistently, all of your processes. The results obtained can then be analyzed, over a period of time, and an evaluation made in comparison with the goals you wish to attain. In the case of a negative assessment, you can proceed to the modification of your system to ensure you obtain the desired results. In today's world, to make sure you maintain a competitive edge, the number one indispensable device to organize yourself is, of course, the computer. Computers allow all of us to homogenize and centralize information.
For self-employed individuals, a number of paperless and very efficient tools are on offer. For example, you can create a Database of prospects and customers (be they property buyers or sellers) that contains contact information, to which can be added, more importantly, comments about each one of them that will enable you to maximize your Customer Relationship Management (CRM) skills. Another example is to create your Agenda in order to make the best use of the time at your disposal between work, family and friends, thus diminishing your overall level of stress. Both of these are Administrative tools. Social Networks (e.g. Facebook, Twitter etc.) are indispensable tools when it comes to Prospecting and Marketing. Presentations (e.g. Web Sites, Powerpoint, Word etc.) for Advertising and Promotion. All of the above tools will enable you to propel people through the Attention, Interest, Desire, Action (AIDA) life cycle of a sale. A satisfied customer is a repeat customer who will moreover refer you to others.
Over the last 25 years or so, two major players have sculpted the Information Technology (IT) environment: Microsoft and Macintosh with respectively the Windows and Mac iOS Operating System. People have become partisans of one or the other. Once the choice has been made for one family of operating system (OS), it is a good idea to stick to it in order to perform at an optimal level and succeed at data homogenization. Whether one uses a "traditional" Desktop or Laptop computer or the more recent Smart Phone or Tablet, it is recommended to not mix OS's. As an example, if you are using a Windows 7 or 8 Laptop, try not to purchase an iPhone. This will result in a weaker platform that you will find extremely difficult to keep at its highest level of performance. The objective to keep in mind is the accessibility to and security of your information.
