Mon Ami l'ordi would like to bring the following to your attention:
As of the 8th of April 2014, Microsoft will stop supporting Windows XP. This means that you will then no longer be receiving either automatic updates or technical assistance. With what result? Your computer will cease to be protected from dangerous viruses, spy softwares (Spyware) and other malicious softwares (Malware) susceptible of stealing your personal information. (Click on:
http://www.monamilordi.com/english/reviews/07-09.html to consult my chronicle describing these "computer diseases"). Furthermore, you will no longer be receiving the latest updates enabling you to improve Windows' reliability (eg. new pilots for new peripherals , like a printer).
What options are available to you?
1. You can do nothing! But the option of continuing to use XP after April 2014 will be "at your own risk".
2. You can continue to use XP if you change your browser from Internet Explorer to Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome (until April 2015), or Opera. These Providers will continue to supply updates and security patches that will help contribute to improving your fate.
3. You can keep your XP computer if you disconnect it from the Internet (modem cable or WiFi). That will enable you to use it as a photo manager, sound system and game console. It can equally remain useful to
to do certain tasks such as word processing or budgeting, or playing your favourite games like Solitaire, Mahjong...
4. You can upgrade to Windows 7 or Windows 8 if you have the following system requirements:
Win7: At least 1GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor , 1GB RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit), 16 GB available hard drive space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit) and DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver.
Win8: 1 GHz or faster processor with support for PAE, NX and SSE2, 1GB RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit), free drive space of 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit) and Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM drive. You will also need a screen resolution of at least 1024 x 768 and an Internet connection to access the Windows Store. Plus a Microsoft Account may be required for some purposes.
5. Finally, you can accept the fact that the time has come to buy a new Computer and/or a Tablet. I know, I know, why replace something that works perfectly well? Well my friends, after reviewing the possibilities on offer I think you will come to the conclusion that in a relatively short time Windows XP will no longer work correctly and could even become an expensive option...
