The Chronicles

December 2009

Salutations dear readers and fellow Laurentian neighbors,

MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone ... ooo, don't you just LOVE this time of year when the snow is all light, fluffy and white and it's not too cold outside. Lots of fun to be had outdoors to be sure. But equally lots of FUN can be had indoors with your photos, now that you've done all the “hard work” of organizing them.

Now that your photos have been transferred to the computer, there's an array of things that can be done with them:  e.g. burn them on a CD with music to show family and friends, view them randomly on a desk-top as a screen-saver to relive great memories again and again, send them via e-mail or to a free Web-site (call me about this if you're interested, it's worth it!) for loved ones, ... the list goes on and on.  First, however, wouldn't it be wonderful if we could “play” with our photos to fix them up a bit to make them look “just right”?  Well, we can and here are just some of the most popular modifications that can be performed out of hundreds possible, if not thousands...

Changing the Brightness, Contrast, Saturation and Gamma will make photos that are too dark or too light worth keeping.  A special effect can be added to make a photo look like a water colour or an oil-based painting, or a photo can be turned into a black and white or a sepia (ancient-looking) one.  You may want to crop out the bad parts of a photo only to keep the interesting stuff, or straighten a pic with a slanted horizon.  What about creating a lovely frame around it or adding humorous comments to put your viewers “in the mood”.  And how about getting rid of that pimple on the end of your nose?  Wouldn't THAT be just fabulous?  It is all possible and very, VERY easy depending on which program is used.  I have one that I adore because it allows me to do all that (and more) with a few clicks of the mouse here and there.

As you can imagine, I could go on f.o.r.e.v.e.r writing about Digital Photography as there are so many aspects to it.  However, I think that with the year coming to an end, I will leave this subject for now and begin on a whole new journey with you in 2010.  Can you believe it?  2010 already!!!  I take this opportunity to wish you all much love, happiness and health the whole year through...

Take good care of yourselves,
