Salutations dear readers and fellow Laurentian neighbors,
On January 9th was celebrated the 10th anniversary of the public announcement by Steve Jobs of Apple McIntosh of the imminent launch (on the 26 June of the same year) of the first generation of the iPhone. It was a shock wave that resonated across the world! This innovation was going to change it, this world, and radically. For the better or the worst... much has been written on this question. For me, the answer is both for the better AND the worst and, whatever your own thoughts on the subject, the fact is none of us can any longer live without being affected in one way or another by these new technologies. Might as well accept the fact and learn to get the hang of its functionalities in order to prevent being completely lost or overwhelmed. There is no need to know everything, far from it. But to have an idea of what is offered and how it functions will help you decide what interests you and what doesn’t. From that point forward, you can begin to learn…
Let us go back a year before this extraordinary announcement, January 2006. My little business
Mon Ami l'Ordi was launched. Its mission: to simplify and make available information concerning new technologies (computers, smart phones/tablets, Internet, digital cameras, programs, etc...) thereby demystifying these for the "50 and better" age group, all in the comfort of your own home. Try to imagine all of the technological changes over these past 11 years. When my company started, most computers had Windows XP. This was replaced with Windows Vista, then 7, 8, 8.1 then 10. There were as many changes with the Mac. There was also the growing popularity of MP3 players and of digital cameras and, as mentioned above, the invention and marketing of many generations of iPhones/iPads as well as Android smart phones and tablets. We saw it all, my friends. Over 11 years, I have given YOU so many lessons. I understood your apprehensions and learned to adapt myself to the learning curve of each one of you so that together we could reach your goals in a manner that was both productive and FUN.
So, dear readers, here's an invitation to you all. I invite you to contact me. Whether you would like to discover different technologies or to deepen your knowledge; whether you are a bit baffled regarding certain functionalities or that certain or your devices don't operate as they should; or if you just want to ask me a « leettle question ».
